REWIRED: Now in Early Development
It never got better. The cities spread out, the markets crashed, the government fell. Everyone with the money hired the people with the guns. The American Heartland became the Mid-Wastes as the extended summers turned the breadbasket into another dust bowl. In the polluted metropolises of the West Coast, an entire generation of mutants and sickly are born in the runoff of the closed corporate enclaves. On the East Coast, families huddle in overcrowded housing complexes during mandatory curfews; while outside, freedom fighters and anarchists clash with the police state locking them down.

REWIRED is a new role-playing game coming from The Chaos Grenade. Mixing elements of post-cyberpunk, dystopian and wastelandish science fiction, this is a cut throat game where sometimes just getting to see another sunrise is an amazing accomplishment. Deadly corporate assassins, mutated street gangs, sleek-ass hackers and state funded agents who can read your thoughts. You call this hell? We call it “Can’t wait ‘til Happy Hour.”
Q: Is this a new version of WYRED?
A: Not Exactly.
While a lot of terminology is being recycled, this is pretty much an entirely new game. I didn’t want this to become “WYRED 2e” because I don’t want those who enjoy that title to feel invalidated. I would love for WYRED to continue being played and shared. It has a purpose, and it still suits it well.
Q: So what’s different in REWIRED?
A: Lots of Stuff.
- New rules system, based on a 3d6 core mechanic.
- Combat is more tactical, but we’re abstracting the bean counting.
- Streamlined setup for cybernetic augmentations and mutations.
- Psionics, because why the hell not?
- An implied setting with optional details and campaign ideas.
- All of that said, REWIRED is still being designed in the spirit of “Quick and Dirty, Rules-Necessary” game play.
REWIRED is still in early development, but in-house (well, apartment) play testing has already begun. I will gladly take volunteers, however, for folks who would be interested in joining me over Google+ Hangouts for some additional play testing in the coming weeks/months.
